Hi,

Does anybody know of a drop shipping solution for Magento?

I have come across this:

Magento Vendor DropShipping Extension

but unfortunately I dont have the necessary funds at the moment to make this purchase. Are there any open source alternatives?

Thanks,

Cos

Hi Cos,

Welcome to Dropship Forum :)

If you like Zen Cart, try http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=product_contrib_info&products_id=981

For Cube Cart, try http://www.cubecartforums.org/catalogue/cubecart-v4/order-related/supplier-drop-shipping-enhancements-for-cubecart-v4/prod_687.html ($45) or look through http://www.cubecartforums.org/catalogue/

For OS Commerce you could try the MVS module at http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4129/category,all/search,Multi+vendor+Shipping, and then ask your programmer to integrate your drop shipper's feed through API or xml.

Off the shelf dropshipping modules all range around $500 in price, which is a bit pricey considering that you will need a programmer to customize the scripts for every feed. We suggest you opt for one of the free modules above, and then submit a project on Elance.com for customization of the module for x number of feeds. You will then get an idea of the cost of integrating each new feed onto your store; every time you want to add a new range to your website you will be aware of the costs involved.

No matter what you may read, you will always need some level of custom scripting to integrate a new product feed onto your ecommerce site. If you come across services that claim to offer you a website pre-filled with thousands or even millions of products, beware that those services tend to be overcrowded and for that reason margins become non existent to outright losses.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your swift reply.

I'll take a look through the links you have provided however I have only very recently spent quite a bit of time and money setting up a Magento store and only recently have I acquired the requirement for drop shipping, therefore I'm a little reluctant to switch carts unless absolutely necessary.

Do you know any standalone dropshipping tools which I could export my order data to? I am a *fairly* competent coder and so I could probably get Magento speaking to an independent tool.

You are unlikely to find anything as well maintained as the Magento Dropshipping Extension. Even if you did find something free / open source, it would still need to be customized to fit your requirements. Have a look at http://www.freelancer.com/job-search/magento-drop-shipping-extension/ to get an idea of the current costs of developing a custom Magento dropshipping extension.
